BRISBANE PET PROJECT SAVES ABUSED FAMILIES EVERY WEEK
New research released by Central Queensland University in October confirms what frontline Domestic Violence Counsellors have long known; that concern for the welfare of pets can prolong an abusive relationship. And at least one Queensland family escape abuse each week as a direct result of the Pets in Crisis Domestic Violence Program - a joint partnership between Queensland's 24hr DVConnect Domestic and Family Violence Service and RSPCA Qld. Making a Difference: We can't do this alone - We need your help! Become a Pets in Crisis Domestic Violence Program Volunteer! We are currently seeking volunteer pet foster carers for this vital program. By providing kindness and care, you can make a difference to an animal in need and provide the owner with peace of mind.

CHILDREN BY CHOICE WOMEN'S ACCESS FUND (WAF)
If you decided to have an abortion, maybe you have money in your own bank account under your control. Or, maybe you have a partner, friend or relative who would quickly help you without question. For some women, these resources are not available. Children by Choice maintains a small donation fund to assist women in difficult circumstances to access abortion services. With spiraling costs and increasing poverty this fund is now empty. Please consider donating now.

SUPPORTING BRISBANE WOMEN'S LEGAL SERVICE
Women’s Legal service desperately requires family lawyers to provide legal advice to our clients on a roster basis one evening a month. Benefits of volunteering include: inclusion in the Centre's referral list, access to volunteer functions and Centre training programs all while helping disadvantaged people in our community.

THE BIG ISSUE PROJECT OPPORTUNITY
The Big Issue recognises that homeless women are often less visible than homeless men and often face greater risks to their safety. We also recognise that our current model of selling the magazine in public areas is unsuitable for women who have experienced violence, sexual assault or have other safety concerns. The Big Issue is currently exploring alternative locations for vendors with safety concerns to sell the magazine. ‘The Big Issue at Work’ is offering organisations the opportunity to support marginalised people striving to help themselves, by allowing employees to buy the magazine at their workplace.
If you would like more information about Project Opportunity or would like to be involved please contact Cara Doherty on (07) 3220 3775 or cara@bigissue.org.au.
