Everyone has seen blatantly offensive advertisements that portray women as sexual toys or victims of violence. Such irresponsible advertising has rightly touched off cries of protest and organized action. The following are some of the more subtle ways advertising reinforces cultural values of subservience, domination and inequality between the sexes.

Manifesto
Advertising trivializes images of bodies, particularly women’s bodies, and scenes of sex and violence. Ad people offer them up for every conceivable product (from yogurts to cars, and more). Hiding behind the pretext of “creativity” they impose their norms and their fantasies. Advertising people reinforce sexist clichés

The Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) is an industry run board. Viewers can register complaints about offensive and indecent advertising material shown in the mainstream media on the grounds of:
- Discrimination
- Violence
- Language
- Portrayal of sex, nudity
- Health and safety
- Alarm or distress to children
The ASB does not handle complaints about:
- Truth and accuracy of advertising
- Legality
- Label directions
- Business practices
- Public advocacy messages
