News February 2007
About the Monthly Newsletter ...

The Newsletter has been coming out monthly since March 2003 and is broken into five parts:

1. Local News and Events Section

This section is gathered from local organisations and individuals in the know and laid out in date order to make it easy to follow. Articles include links for you to follow and typical monthly events include seminars, workshops, talks, performances, art shows and campaigns. You can also submit events that you know about to the Newsletter by emailing us or using the submit page.

2. International News Section

This section is collated from international feminist news lists that BFO is subscribed to and edited to give an around the world tour of feminist issues for the month. Articles come from diverse sources including Yahoo news, New York Times, the Guardian, Womensnews etc.

3. Monthly Feature

Each month the newsletter will focus on a particular topic in feminism. The Feature focuses on gathering differing feminist opinions about one topic to give an overview of the current debate regarding that issue. Recent topics we have covered include feminism and pornography, feminism and motherhood, feminist weddings, lesbian feminism. You are welcome to message us with topic suggestions if you like.

4. Articles and Current Affairs

If Brisbane is obsessed with a feminist issue we may include article links to what is being said about that topic. Examples of this include the Broncos Beauty Pagent, the jailing of Di Campbell and Maternity Leave.

5. Sexist Ad Campaign

We often include a sexist ad campaign encouraging women to write to organisations regarding their sexist advertising. Some campaigns we have focused on include KIA car advertising, CUSHOP bus ads and the DUFOUR bus stop adverts. Feel free to highlight a sexist ad you think we should campaign against.
